MKS
The “Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium” association (MKS) is a non-profit organisation founded in 1994 to promote modern and contemporary sculpture and art.
THE MEDITERRANEAN SCULPTURE SYMPOSIUM AND DUBROVA SCULPTURE PARK
To bring new life to the Baroque Franković-Vlačić palace, known as the Dubrova estate (Stancija Dubrova), a group of artists and art historians, supported by the local authorities, started a sculpture residency that they named the “Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium”.
As their main material they chose Istrian stone, which is exceptionally hard and durable. The symposium produced so many works that the stone sculptures soon had to be shown beyond the courtyard of the estate. This is how Dubrova Sculpture Park came into being. It covers 33 hectares and is partly enclosed by traditional Istrian dry-stone walls. In the park you will find 74 sculptures by renowned Croatian and international artists who have worked within the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium since 1970. A walk along the White Road, an art project in space made up of the 16 equal-length sections completed so far, is a special experience, as is a rest in the Dolac amphitheatre. As you explore eastern Istria, from Pićan all the way to Rabac, you may come across stone sculptures that were created at Dubrova.

What do we do?
The aims of the MKS association are to promote all forms of cultural, artistic and scientific work and to preserve and protect the environment of Dubrova Sculpture Park, by protecting and promoting people’s right to associate freely around shared interests. The sustainable development of the association is based on developing and promoting its own activities, training its members and improving their work, protecting its own interests and representing the interests of its members, while respecting social, environmental and financial criteria of development.
The MKS association is the legal successor of the “Labin Republic” chapter of the Čakavski sabor (Chakavian Assembly), founded in 1969, under whose auspices the cultural event of the same name, the “Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium”, took place.
On 7 June 1976, the Assembly of the then Municipality of Labin adopted a decision granting the chapter land near the village of Dubrova and declaring “Dubrova Sculpture Park” an asset of general public interest. At the end of June 1994, artists and other citizens gathered around the Symposium decided to found the non-profit organisation “Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium” (MKS). Since that day the association has operated in the same organisational form and structure.

CONSERVATION AND PROTECTION OF THE STONE SCULPTURES
The project covers the restoration and repair of damaged sculptures and sections of the White Road. They are thoroughly cleaned of organic growth and of the effects of many years of exposure to the weather, and then protected and impregnated to restore and preserve their original appearance as far as possible. Reviving these works will make it possible to complete the new visual presentation of Dubrova Sculpture Park and to safeguard exceptional works of art.

INFO CENTRE KOCKA
Construction of the info centre called “KOCKA” (the Cube) began at the start of this century. The idea was to give visitors to the park the information they need about the park and what it offers. After several years of renovation, the building was fitted out and opened to the public in May 2023. It houses the info point of the MKS association and the tourist info points of the Labin Tourist Board and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Sveta Nedelja.
