Negovan Nemec, SLO
(Bilje, Slovenia, 1947 – Ljubljana, Slovenia, 1987)
He was born in Bilje, Slovenia in 1947. After completing the School of Applied Arts, in 1967 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he graduated in the class of Prof. Slavko Tihec. He was the first academy-trained sculptor in post-war Gorica. His first solo exhibition was held at the Meblo Gallery in Nova Gorica in 1972 (with Luciano Bratus). He exhibited in all renowned galleries in Slovenia and abroad. He participated in numerous group exhibitions of Slovenian and Yugoslav art in the country and abroad. From 1971 onward, he realized several public projects: monuments, portraits of public and cultural workers, monumental reliefs and sculptures in shopping malls and parks.
In addition to sculpture, he engaged in graphic and industrial design. He died in an accident in Ljubljana in 1987.
In 1991, his extensive monograph was published by the Scientific Institute of the Faculty of Philosophy in Ljubljana. After his death, his studio in Bilje was turned into a gallery displaying his works created between 1970 and 1987.
He participated in the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium in 1984.
