Marija Ujević-Galetović, HRV
(Zagreb, 1933)
She was born in Zagreb in 1933. In 1959, she obtained a degree in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb in the class of Prof. Fran Kršinić. After graduating, she studied at the Central School of Art and Design in London (1959-1960). She furthered her studies in Italy, England and France.
She has regularly exhibited since 1960. She has presented her works in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the country and abroad. She is the author of many sculptures in public spaces. She has won numerous national and international awards and recognitions, including the first prize for the Telecommunications Monument in Geneva (1965), the City of Zagreb Award (1989) and the Vladimir Nazor Lifetime Achievement Award (2012).
Since 1987, she has worked at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, advancing from assistant professor to full professor status in 1995. On several occasions, she was the head of the Sculpture Department. Since 1998, she has been a full member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU). In her works, she nurtures the tradition of Croatian figurative sculpture, connecting it with contemporary and avant-garde conceptions.
She participated in the Mediterranean Sculpture Symposium in 1983.
